Holy Faith :

  • Welcomes all people into an ever-deepening relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • We believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the Sacraments, and the Authority of Scripture.
  • We honor our Anglican heritage and praise God with solemn liturgy, traditional Prayer Book worship, and music to exalt the spirit.
  • We strive to live as a community with compassion for one another and the world around us.
  • We worship together in peace to praise and thank God, to transcend division, and to celebrate the mystery of faith.

The Reverend Masud Ibn Syedullah TSSF
Associate Rector

The Rev. Masud Ibn Syedullah, TSSF (pronounced: mah-sood  ih ben sigh -ed-dew-lah) served for many years as a priest of the Diocese of New York, and as the Vicar of the Church of the Atonement, Bronx. He is a member of the Ecumenical and Interfaith Commission of the Diocese of New York, and is Chair of its Episcopal-Muslim Relations Committee. Father Syedullah has served the Diocese of New York as President of the Standing Committee, Dean of the Northeast Bronx, member of the Liturgical Commission, and as a Field-Site Supervisor for seminarians.

His ministry has included being Associate for Worship and Education Ministries at Trinity Church, Wall Street, New York City; Associate for Adult Education and Liturgy at Christ Church, Cincinnati; Vicar of St. Aidan’s Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Chaplain and Head of Religion and Psychology at Holland Hall School, Tulsa.

For nearly thirty years, Father Syedullah has been a professed member of the Third Order, Society of Saint Francis (TSSF), a religious community within the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion. Franciscan spirituality, which focuses on responding to human need and values human dignity, has greatly informed Father Syedullah’s spirituality, and ministry of social justice, peace-making and reconciliation. He has served the Third Order as its Provincial Chaplain, overseeing its spiritual formation programs; and Minister Provincial, its chief executive officer; and currently serves as one of its ecumenical officers, and Convener of the New York City Fellowship.

Throughout his ministry, Father Syedullah has used his gifts as musician, educator, and spiritual director to create and lead retreats, conferences, and workshops, nationally and internationally. He is the Director of Roots & Branches: Programs for Spiritual Growth which provides a variety of programs for spiritual formation to parishes, dioceses, religious communities, and other institutions of the Church. He also works closely with the Brothers of the Ecumenical Community of Taizé in France, leading conferences and workshops in the music, worship, and scripture study style of that community.

Creating, encouraging, and supporting environments that provide people with an assurance of the Presence and love of God is a common theme throughout all of his work.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri into a family with a Christian mother and a Muslim father, Father Syedullah developed a keen awareness of and sensitivity for interfaith concerns. Much of his ministry involves bridge-building among people of different faith traditions and helping Christians to understand their call to be in positive relationship with people of other faith traditions while being secure in their own.

God willing, he and his wife, Janice, will celebrate their fortieth wedding anniversary this July. They have two adult daughters, Jasmine and Amina; and an “adopted” son, Michel.
